My Top 5 Places to Eat in Manchester

August 5, 2017 No Comments

I can’t claim to have eaten in every single cafe or restaurant in this great city, but what I can offer are my top 5 places to eat in Manchester, to give you a starting guide on where to chow down. Many of them have the wonderful vintage/hipster feel that I love so much and all of them offer some of the most amazing food you will ever experience.

Evelyn’s Cafe & Bar

This is a relatively new find for me but oh my is it amazing! First of all the coffee is probably the best I’ve had in the UK so far, plus you get gorgeous latte art to accompany the rich flavours. Their food is largely veggie friendly and they have some amazing egg based dishes, such as their mushroom, spinach and egg on sour dough. Their flavoursome brunches are a must try if you find yourself in Manchester’s Northern Quarter and the rustic decor offers the perfect, cozy feel for meetings with good friends!

Must try: The pancakes with blueberries and honeycomb butter. They may look a little weird, but they taste divine!

If you are looking for delicious cheese, bread and meats, then you have to try the Bakerie. They do great wine and board offers and their food is absolutely amazing. This is a great place to visit with a group, as their boards are perfect for sharing amongst friends. Plus, the staff are extremely helpful and friendly and make you feel welcome and completely comfortable.

Must try: Get a meat board with the chorizo and the cheese board with the halloumi, you won’t be sorry!

If you’re looking for the best pizza you’ll ever have, then head to Ply. After coming back from Italy, I thought I’d never have great pizza ever again, but I was wrong. Ply’s pizza is unbelievable, with a thin, crispy crust and juicy toppings, these are cooked in the restaurant/bar’s giant disco ball oven. With reasonable prices and tasty beer on offer, this is a must visit place whilst in Manchester.

Must try: Any of their full size pizzas, just eat all of them!

Sugar Junction

The best place for tea and cake, hands down. I used to visit here a lot on my lunch when I worked down in Ancoats and I miss my regular visits. They do beautiful afternoon teas, cakes and the best flavoured teas in the city. They are pretty small and always get booked up at the weekends, so it’s worth getting in around 11 to get a table, or book via their website.

Must try: Their Guinness chocolate cake and Orange & Passionfruit tea.

My favourite american eatery, Alabama’s is my ‘go to’ place for waffles. I love the decor, it’s so simple, yet quirky and the staff are always friendly and inviting, plus you get your receipt in an old book! Alabama’s was one of the first places I went to eat after moving to Manchester and it has remained one of my all time favourites!

Must try: The Chocolate and Peanut Butter Waffle Stack

There are so many amazing places to grab lunch in Manchester and hopefully I’ll be able to put a few more guides together for you as I make my way around every single one. If you’ve got a favourite place to eat in Manchester that you think I should know about, let me know!
