That’s right you lovely awesome people! I am moving all the way to the other side of the world to take part in BUNAC’s Work New Zealand programme!
I can finally tell you all about it!!
I booked this epic adventure after my 27th birthday, where I had a slight ‘OMG I”M NEARLY 30!’ moment and decided to uproot my entire life and take it in a new direction.
Creating your dream life
For years I’ve had this dream way of living in my head, it came about after my second mental breakdown when I decided that maybe I needed to create a custom way of living to fit around my health issues.
I’ve loved working in agencies and learning new things and skills, but the 9-5 Monday to Friday just doesn’t fit me. I need more time to look after my health, whether that’s getting active, meditating, going on new adventures or simply having time to cook a proper meal!
My current situation doesn’t allow me to do that.
I realised very early on that I needed to create a career and a lifestyle that put my mental health before anything else and the way I always planned to do that, was by creating my own online business and that’s exactly what I’ll be fighting to do over the next 3 years.
Don’t let others tell you what is possible
When I talk about the way I want to live my life, I get the same response:
‘Well yeh, that would be lovely, but this is the real world’
Well, yes other people do it, so why can’t I? Just because someone is telling you it’s not possible, doesn’t mean it’s not possible for you. Don’t let others limited beliefs dictate your decisions.
I’ve always dreamed of living somewhere that allowed me to get outside, get adventurous and help me to breathe a little easier. Will that place be New Zealand? Who knows! If it isn’t, then I can move on to the next place and then the next place. The point is, I’m using this experience to help me discover exactly what my dream life is, what it looks like for me and my reality.
I’m also avoiding serious adulthood at all costs, but we’ll leave that for now.
Work New Zealand with BUNAC
A few years ago I was looking into BUNAC’s Work Canada programme, but then I ended up getting a job I enjoyed with people I loved and it just didn’t make sense for me to leave it all behind, especially not when I was finally content with my life!
However turning 27 made me realise that I was missing out on all of these amazing opportunities. I wanted to grab a working visa before I turned 30 and prices sky rocketed or the option was taken away from me completely.
Once again I looked into Work Canada, but after hearing about the difficulty of Canadian work visas, I decided to try my hand at New Zealand. It’s a place I have wanted to visit since I was very young and apparently I even have family down there, who knew!
I chose the Ultimate Programme just for ease and to give myself as little stress as possible. There are 3 programmes you can choose from:
I went for the most expensive package, because I thought, hey, go big or go home.
I’m also booked onto the group flight, which includes a short stop in Hong Kong on our way to New Zealand. Once we land in Auckland, we then have are induction week and an awesome 7 days of activities, which include kayaking, sailing and a traditional Maori welcome.
I’ll have a 12-month work visa and full support from BUNAC so I feel pretty good about getting things up and running fairly quickly once I get to where I’m going.
